What is Base42 Systems?
Base42 Systems is an applied AI lab that engineers production-grade AI systems for enterprises whose problems are too hard for off-the-shelf tools and too slow to solve by hiring in-house. The descriptor is “applied AI lab.” The entity you will see on the site, deck and email is Base42.
How we work
- Senior engineers only. Nobody learns on your budget. The people on the call are the people writing the code.
- Production or nothing. A POC is a milestone, never the deliverable. Done means running your real workflow.
- You own the stack. Code, prompts, weights, evals, docs: all transfer to you. No black boxes, no dependency by design.
- Governance from the first commit. Auth, access control, audit and data residency are designed in, not retrofitted. Retrofitting governance is a rewrite.
- Model-agnostic by architecture. Best model for each job, proven with evals, re-picked when the market moves.
What we build
Four kinds of work, one thread: the problems other shops quote around.
- Private AI platforms with governance built in
- Custom agents and harnesses for one specific business job
- Model-agnostic orchestration across Claude, GPT and open weights
- Machine intelligence for the factory floor
Continuity, IP and security
The small-firm objection is real. The answer is architectural, not a promise: you own all code, IP and docs outright; handover is designed in; there is no black box. Data security is treated as part of the system — SSO, RBAC, audit, encryption at rest, no training on client data — and is already running in production at BCCL, not listed as a future phase.
Questions
What kind of firm is Base42?
A boutique applied AI lab: high-margin senior engineering engagements, founder-led, no junior-army markup. Base42 is the only customer-facing brand.
Do you lock clients to one model vendor?
No. Models are swappable parts. Each task is routed to whichever of Claude, GPT, or open weights does it best, with evals to prove it. When the market moves, you change a config, not your architecture.
Why not hire in-house instead?
Do both: we ship now, your team inherits a working production system instead of a blank page. Compare the fee to 12 months of AI-team payroll with nothing in production.
